Michiel and Veerle
Our ballroom teachers
Veerle and Michiel, both studying mathematics started the ballroomcourse at the beginning of this school year and are now in the silver classes.

We asked them why they decided to start the ballroom classes together. They wanted to dance something that is completely new for both to them, as Veerle already had a lot of experience. She has danced for 15 years and Michiel has a little background in dancing, together they wanted to try something else. What they enjoy the most about ballroom dancing, is that the dance can have a continuous loop and you can bring a lot of variations of steps into the dance. The leader of the dance can decide which choreo he or she like to do on the spot.
We asked them what is difficult for them while dancing. For Veerle the challenge is to make the moves very small because in her experience in other dance styles she was told to make do everything as big as possible. For Michiel however, think the biggest challenge is to attune to your partner. You first learn to do the steps alone before you practice in pairs.

Their advice for beginning ballroom dancers: Even though all the steps can be intimidating at first, practice makes perfect. And for the followers, watch out wearing heels with open toes as you might get stepped upon 😉
Henk ofcourse passed the ballroom test! Thank you, Michiel and Veerle for learning us the quickstep!
